Here at Bernard Austin Design our mission is to beautify communities one house at a time, whether by designing a home from the ground up or renovating an existing home.
Bernard Austin Design is a locally owned architectural design firm based in beautiful Wilmington, North Carolina.
Architect Bernard Austin grew up in a family furniture business and was inspired at a very young age to pursue a life-long passion for design. Little did he know his passion for design combined with his passion for the ocean would take him from coast to coast designing some of the most beautiful residential architecture in America today.
He received his Masters Degree in Architecture in 2001 and ultimately became managing director of Atlanta-based Harrison Design Associates’ New York office. After establishing the office in New York, Bernard decided he and his family needed to return to their coastal roots and they relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina.
With Bernard’s formal training and his wife, Alexandria’s, sophisticated eye for design, they discovered their shared talent for renovating homes. Over the past 15 years they have collaborated and discovered their uncanny ability to see beauty and potential in homes that are often difficult for most people to recognize.
Their passion for breathing life into old homes started with the restoration of an 1850’s colonial home which they restored to the simplicity and splendor of it’s original design. Since then, they have left their indelible mark on homes from Santa Barbara, California to Cold Spring Harbor, New York to right here in Wilmington, North Carolina.
